Hearthside - The House That Love Built

EDUCATION AND TOURS

Part of the mission of Friends of Hearthside is to promote the historical significance of Hearthside and of the Great Road Historic District. Within just three miles along Great Road, over three hundred years of history can be experienced. From the 1687 Eleazer Arnold House at one end of Great Road to the 1870 Hannaway Blacksmith Shop and 1810 Hearthside to the 1694 Valentine Whitman House, Great Road is a treasure trove of history.  CLICK HERE FOR A GREAT ROAD MAP.

Tours of the HearthsideTours for groups or schools may be arranged at each site, or a multi-site tour which explores what life was like in Lincoln and the Blackstone Valley during the 18 th and 19 th centuries through linking several historic sites with five stops, ranging from 1687 to 1870. The emphasis of the tour is on the evolution of regional social and economic growth, over a three-hundred year period, with transportation through the Blackstone Valley as a sub-theme, addressing history, geography and economics in the school curriculum.

Why not consider an all-day experience in our state’s history. The Great Road Historic District is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Pawtucket’s Slater Mill to learn about the start of the Industrial Revolution at this site, or Providence’s 1788 John Brown House to see how wealthy families lived in the late 18 th century.
