It is a time to renew thoughts of the old ways and to preserve a rich heritage. It is a celebration of Mother Nature, Life and Native Traditions. It features drumming, dancing, storytelling and crafts. There will also be Native foods available, and raffles. Children especially will enjoy the festivities and the captivating stories told by Jim Gillen “Catfish Jim”, founder of Tales from a Small Planet. Jim, a professional storyteller for over 30 years, has been delighting audiences with his interactive tales of Native America, the Old West, and the animal kingdom.

This Native American Gathering is held by the Circle of Wisdom Metis, an intertribal group from Northern Rhode Island. The group was created to promote American Indian awareness and teach its traditions. Through community outreach programs, the group shares its values, traditions, beliefs and religion of the American Indian. It has a diverse membership consisting of teachers, ministers, EMT’s, construction workers, parents, web designers, English majors, and students. The group shares a common belief that everything in the environment is a gift and that it is our responsibility to protect Mother Earth so that the next several generations may enjoy.
