ELEGANT PARASOLS FEATURED AT HEARTHSIDE’S ANNUAL TRADITIONAL AFTERNOON TEA ON APRIL 27TH

Twirl your parasol and return to the gentle splendor of a bygone era at the annual Traditional Afternoon Tea at Hearthside. Sponsored by the Friends of Hearthside, this eighth annual event is being held on Sunday, April 27 th. It has always been an extremely popular event to signal the start of Spring and is expected to once again draw close to 120 guests, who come to appreciate the luxury that Afternoon Tea brings, along with the chance to linger with friends and socialize the old fashioned way—over a pot of tea in elegant surroundings on a beautiful Spring afternoon.

As guests pass through the door of this much-admired historic stone mansion, they instantly take a step back in time to the turn of the century as volunteer hostesses greet them in Victorian attire. Spring flowers, elaborate hats, delicate lace, dainty teacups and fancy miniature sandwiches and sweets all contribute to the experience of a Traditional Victorian Tea, served in a most elegant setting of this historic home. This Traditional Victorian Tea is geared toward adults, whereas the American Girl Doll™ Tea being held the week before on April 20 is a chance to share the Tea experience with young girls who may enjoy more age appropriate refreshments with lots of other children and their mothers.

The theme for this year’s event will be the “History of the Parasol”. Throughout the Victorian era, a parasol was considered an essential part of a lady’s wardrobe, and was as important to her as her gloves, scarves, hats and footwear. Ladies in that era most certainly would carry a parasol when attending Tea. There will be handmade parasols on display and guests will have a chance to learn more about this important status symbol used during the late 1800s.

Guests are encouraged to participate in the tradition of tea by wearing their loveliest hats. Prizes will be given for the “most beautiful” and “most unusual” hats. Raffle prizes will also be offered. There will be tours of the house given following each seating of tea. The Hearthside Gift Shop will be open throughout the event to purchase special gifts, just in time for Mother’s Day.

Space is limited for the two seatings being offered at 1:00 and at 3:00 p.m. Reservations for this popular event are required and tickets, at $20.00 each, must be purchased in advance by calling Hearthside at 401-726-0597 before April 21 st. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are non-refundable and proceeds from the event benefit the restoration of the historic home. No tickets at the door.
