Hearthside - The House That Love Built

POW WOW RETURNS TO CHASE FARM
September 20-21

Be sure to join us at Chase Farm Park on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 st for the Annual Pow Wow of the Circle of Wisdom Metis. The Circle of Wisdom Metis, an intertribal group from Northern Rhode Island, has been coming to Chase Farm Park for the past few years, under the sponsorship of Friends of Hearthside, and we are pleased to welcome them back once again to Lincoln.

The event runs each day from noon till 5:00 p.m. and admission is free. It is an ideal family activity.

A Pow Wow is a time of renewal for Native Americans. It is a time to renew thoughts of the old ways and to preserve a rich heritage. It is a time to get together to join in dancing, visiting, renewing old friendships and making new ones. As a celebration of Mother Nature, Life and Native Traditions, the pow wow features drumming, dancing, storytelling and crafts. There will also be Native foods available and raffles. Children especially enjoy the storytelling and interactive tales of Native America, the Old West, and the animal kingdom.

The Circle of Wisdom Metis was created to promote American Indian awareness and teach its traditions. Through community outreach programs, the group shares its values, traditions, beliefs and religion of the American Indian. It has a diverse membership consisting of teachers, ministers, EMTs, construction workers, parents, web designers, English majors, and students. The group shares a common belief that everything in the environment is a gift and that it is OUR responsibility to protect Mother Earth so that the next several generations may enjoy.
