2008 Spring Teas a success! The most popular event at Hearthside continues to be the spring teas! A special tea just for girls and their dolls is a fairly new addition, which was sold out once again this year. Dozens of little girls arrived at Hearthside on April 20th with wide smiles, dolls in hand, and ready to attend their first "Tea." The following week on April 27 th, an elegant traditional afternoon tea was held with delicacies fit for a queen and melodies played on antique dulcimers. The focus of this event was “the history of the parasol,” and in addition to the fancy menu and presentation, guests were treated to many parasols on exhibit as well as an overview of the history and demonstration of the language of these beautiful Victorian accessories. Prizes were awarded for ladies wearing the “Most Unique” and the “Most Beautiful” hats. And the following nine lucky ladies won some fabulous gift baskets in our raffle: Wine & Snacks in Hand Painted Wooden Box was won by Melissa Schlenker of Mansfield, MA; a Barbeque Basket to Elaine Blais of Coventry, RI; a Gardening Basket to Marissa Boucher of Wareham, MA; a Pampering Basket to Linda Casey of Cranston, RI; a Bath Basket to Adelle Karbowski of Pascoag, RI; a Spot of Tea basket to Veronica Martin of Lincoln, RI; a Tea Time Basket to Nancy Stonely of Lincoln, RI; a Bath Time Basket to Teresa McDermott of Kingston, MA; and an Ice Cream Sundae Basket to Shirley Keene of Warwick, RI. Thanks to all who supported Hearthside by attending the Spring Teas, purchasing a raffle ticket and shopping in the Gift Shop! We hosted nearly 200 guests during the two Sunday afternoon events and made well over $3,000 in profit!
Kathy Hartley, President of Friends of Hearthside presents the prizes to the winners of the hat contest: Peggy Karbowski (pink) - Most Unusual Hat; and Cindy Opaluch – Most Beautiful Hat. |
