Hearthside - The House That Love Built

AFTERNOON TEA RAISES FUNDS FOR RESTORATION; RAFFLE WINNER ANNOUNCED

After the long, cold winter, April 30th brought a delightful sunny afternoon for the elegant Annual Traditional Tea at Hearthside. Over 100 guests, many adorned in beautiful hats, attended during the two seatings. Some 2,000 miniature tea sandwiches and hundreds of delicate pastries came out of Hearthside’s kitchen, all elaborate works of art that were presented on lovely china and tiered dishes and prepared by John and Fran Scanlon and served by several of our volunteers. Special guest, Margo Bik, presented the history of hats, modeling several unique hats from her own collection. Most beautiful hats and most unique hats were judged at each seating and the winners went home with a plant in a tea tin. Each guest received a miniature decorated straw hat to remember their memorable day at Hearthside. Thanks to all who helped support the work of Friends of Hearthside with their purchase of a ticket to the Tea and raffle. The Tea raised over $1,800, with $450 resulting from the raffle ticket sales. Nine big beautiful baskets were raffled off. The lucky winners were:

  • Mary Billington of Cumberland - Gardening Tools Basket
  • Patty McAuley of Lincoln - Café Girl Beauty Basket
