While Hearthside is beautiful during each of the seasons, there’s nothing quite like the holidays to show off its true elegance. So, be sure to mark your calendar now to spend a Sunday afternoon in December to step back in time and enjoy some holiday spirit the old-fashioned way. The house is lavishly decorated in the traditional touches of Victorian ornamentation of lace and gold, the warm glow of candlelight, garlands dressing each mantel, and colorful poinsettias to brighten every corner. All the rooms are decorated by volunteers who donate their personal collections to create this Christmas splendor.

Hearthside’s Traditional Christmas begins on Sunday, December 5th as part of the Town of Lincoln’s Festival of Lights celebration with an Open House from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. While there is no admission charge for the Open House, donations are encouraged, as well as a trip to our Gift Shop! From 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12 th, it’s a Dickens Christmas Celebration when guests are greeted by the Wassail Bowl and savory treats, while enjoying a Candlelight Tour of Hearthside. The celebration is highlighted by Christmas carols sung by costumed Victorian carolers. To complete the festivities, take a short ride over to the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland for the Fezziwig Ball, an entertaining evening of song and dance of a traditional Christmas from the mid-1800’s. Tickets for the Hearthside Dickens Celebration and/or the Fezziwig Ball will be available in November. Watch for further details in the coming weeks.

On Sunday, December 19th, young and old will enjoy the magic of Christmas, as told through the popular children’s storybook, “The Polar Express.” Readings will take place at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., followed by a visit with Santa, Christmas sing-along, and hot chocolate and cookies.
