EXPERIENCE HOLIDAY ELEGANCE AT HEARTHSIDE IN DECEMBERHearthside’s magnificent beauty truly shines at Christmas time when the entire house is dressed in the finest holiday decorations. There are two opportunities to experience the festive décor---Sunday, December 3 rd and Sunday, December 10 t h. Hearthside will open its doors between 1:00-7:00 p.m. for a self-guided tour on Sunday, December 3rd as part of the Town of Lincoln’s Annual Festival of Lights celebration. Upon entering the first floor foyer, visitors will be greeted by hosts and hostesses dressed in Victorian finery as they are invited to stroll through all 10 lavishly decorated rooms. This trip back in time to a Christmas long ago includes beautifully appointed Christmas trees with delicate ornaments, gaily decorated mantels, a dining room elegantly appointed with gilded décor, garlands adorning staircases and doorways, and brightly colored poinsettia plants throughout. Festive holiday music will be provided by a pianist from 1:30-4:00 and a harpist from 4:30-7:00. Santa will be stopping by from 2:00-4:00 . The theme of this year’s Festival of Lights is “Education Through the Years.” A replica of Lincoln’s one-room schoolhouse, the Pullen Corner Schoolhouse (circa 1850), will be on display at Hearthside for the Open House event, and ornaments made by the children at Saylesville Elementary School will adorn one of the mansion’s Christmas trees. For a more leisurely visit, consider a unique evening on Sunday, December 10th. Recalling the treasured elegance of Christmas in days of yesteryear, join us for “A Christmas Carol Celebration,” between 4:00-8:00 p.m. Guests will be invited to spend a leisurely evening in the warm ambience of candlelight, being entertained by Victorian carolers, and toasting to the holiday season with traditional hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and a Wassail bowl. Guides in period dress will provide interpretive tours throughout the elaborately decorated mansion. Guests are encouraged to join in the spirit by also dressing in Victorian attire, although it is not required to be a part of this one of a kind event. And to make it even more enjoyable, consider turning it into a full evening of holiday merriment, just as they would have done at the turn of the century, by starting at Hearthside for the Christmas Carol reception and moving on to celebrate with music and dancing at the Blackstone River Theatre. In collaboration with Hearthside, the Blackstone River Theatre is offering a companion event just 5 minutes away at 549 Broad Street in Cumberland, where “Fezziwig’s Party” will be taking place with roving musicians, period dancing to live music and cash bar. The party at the Theatre takes place between 5:00-9:00 p.m. Guests may participate in the festivities, or simply sit back and be entertained. Guests are invited to enjoy a truly old-fashioned Christmas by attending one or both of the holiday events on December 10 th. Tickets for the Christmas Carol Celebration at Hearthside are $12 each, and the Fezziwig Party tickets are $15 each, or a combination ticket for the entire evening at Hearthside and the Blackstone River Theatre are $25 each. Tickets should be purchased in advance by calling Hearthside at 726-0597, or the Blackstone River Theatre (www.riverfolk.org) at 725-9272. |
