Hearthside - The House That Love Built

Free Concert by “Pendragon” on Friday, June 17 as part of 2005 Blackstone Valley Expedition

Hearthside and the Great Road Historic District are being showcased during the Blackstone River Expedition ’05 taking place June 15-18, which will also feature a free concert by “Pendragon,” known for their renditions of Celtic music of the immigrants of the Blackstone Valley.

This exciting 4-day paddling and bicycling event starts at the headwaters of the Blackstone River in Worcester, ending at the Rivers Day Celebration in Central Falls. Along the way, there will be a variety of special community events to highlight the various achievements throughout the Valley and opportunities for revitalization in the future. The John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor is sponsoring the event and has chosen Lincoln, and specifically the Great Road Historic District and Friends of Hearthside, as an example of a partnership effort that is making significant progress in its efforts to preserve and protect the heritage of the Blackstone Valley.

The 50 or so Riverway participants will be making their way from the Bike Path in Lincoln to the fields of Chase Farm on Great Road, where they will camp out for the night. When they arrive, Friends of Hearthside and Town officials will greet them at Hearthside and share the work we have done to preserve and provide access to the public of many special places within the Great Road Historic District. Following a tour of Hearthside and hand forging demonstrations at the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, the group will enjoy a barbecue, followed by an outdoor community concert by “Pendragon” at Chase Farm. The public is invited to attend this free concert which begins at 6:30 p.m. Come share in the excitement of this celebration of the Valley’s treasures!
