Hearthside - The House That Love Built

SCAVENGER HUNT SCHEDULED FOR "FOOTSTEPS IN HISTORY" ON OCTOBER 8TH

It’s an adventure through the centuries in the Blackstone Valley during Columbus Day Weekend, as some 150 sites prepare to welcome visitors for the second Annual Footsteps in History Preserve America Weekend.

Once again, Hearthside and several other Great Road and nearby historic sites in Lincoln will collaborate on the event. On Sunday, October 8 th, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., several of Lincoln’s historic sites will open their doors and invite visitors to participate in a Scavenger Hunt for History at each site. The 19 th century may be experienced at Hearthside, where guides in Victorian costume help set the stage for what life was like in the late 1800’s. Colonial life in the 18 th century is featured at the Valentine Whitman House (circa 1694) at the opposite end of Great Road. Children will be amazed to see how nails were made from steel during hand forging demonstrations at the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop. The Kelly House, located along the Blackstone River and Blackstone Canal, unlocks the mystery of how canals operated. The Blackstone Valley Historical Society has a wealth of knowledge about the important role played by the Valley in our region’s history, and they will test yours during this hunt for history clues at their headquarters at Northgate and the Arnold Bakery. Visit all the sites and find all the clues…you just may get a sweet reward!

Hearthside has the honor of having been selected as the site to host the Opening Reception on October 3 rd for the Footsteps in History Preserve America Weekend. Guests and elected officials will be attending from all 24 communities of the Blackstone Valley that participate in this region-wide, bi-state, weekend long celebration of our heritage. Friends of Hearthside is extremely proud to be a part of Footsteps in History, which has received a Presidential Award and has had a profound impact on the public’s awareness and knowledge of the importance of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor.
