2005 Legislative Grant ReceivedFriends of Hearthside is pleased to announce that this year started off with the receipt of a legislative grant. Lincoln State Rep. Bill McManus presented the group with a legislative grant in the amount of $2,500 in January 2006. The grant came about as a result of a proposal that had been submitted last fall by Friends of Hearthside to the House of Representatives for a grant to fund the installation of a new handicap ramp. A temporary ramp had been in place since 1997 when the Town had purchased Hearthside, however the slope of that ramp was too steep and did not meet the specifications required by ADA. With this grant, a new ramp will be designed, in consultation with the RI Historical Preservation Commission, to meet the ADA requirements and built so as not to disturb the historical integrity of the house. The new ramp will allow access to Hearthside by many elderly and handicap individuals who are unable to climb the steep entrance stairs. |
