Hannaway Shop Expands Classes in Handforging![]() In response to a growing interest in metal crafts and the Friends of Hearthside’s mission to preserve history, we are pleased to announce that the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop is expanding the opportunities to learn handforging by adding classes on Sunday mornings and a weekday evening for beginning students, in addition to its Saturday morning classes. Taught by blacksmiths, the process called handforging is done by heating iron and then shaping it as it cools with a hammer on an anvil into household items and implements. The classes, which are limited in size, run for two hours. Materials are provided. Men, women and teens are welcomed as students. To sign up for classes or for more information about the Hannaway Shop, contact John Scanlon at john.scanlon@hearthsidehouse.org or (401)724-1522. The Hannaway Blacksmith Shop (circa 1880) is owned by the Town of Lincoln, but is managed by the Friends of Hearthside. It is located just down the street from Hearthside at the entrance to Chase Farm Park at 669 Great Road. The Shop is open to the public for demonstrations during class hours, typically 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. |
