Hearthside - The House That Love Built

Annual Powwow Scheduled for Chase Farm Park Sept 18-19

The Friends of Hearthside is pleased to partner once again with the Eastern New England Metis, 13 Moons Turtle Clan for the annual powwow being held at Chase Farm Park. This year’s event is being held on Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19th. The 13 Moons Turtle Clan is an intertribal group from Northern Rhode Island. The event runs each day from noon till 5:00 p.m. The event features drummers, dancers, storytellers and vendors of Native American crafts and foods. Bring the family for an afternoon of family fun and education.

A Pow Wow is a time of renewal for Native Americans. It is a time to renew thoughts of the old ways and to preserve a rich heritage. Dancing is a very special part of the powwow, as is singing and the rhythm of the drum beat. It is a time for the people to get together to visit, renew old friendships and make new ones. It is a celebration of Mother Nature, Life and Native Traditions. Children especially enjoy the storytelling and interactive tales of Native America, the Old West, and the animal kingdom. Several vendors will be selling Native American goods, and there will be raffle prizes.

The goal of Eastern New England Metis is to share the cultural heritage and diversity of American Indians with the surrounding communities; to organize American Indian celebrations and activities; to create a sense of community and family within their council, along with the purpose of continuing the lineage of the American Indian Tradition. Through community outreach and educational programs, the group shares its values, traditions, beliefs and religion of the American Indian, keeping their rich history alive for future generations.
