Appraisal Day Fundraiser Raises Over $2,000
When Paul Royka, nationally-known antiques expert, came to Hearthside on Saturday, June 26th, he had no idea that the response would be so overwhelming. In the days leading up to the event, phone calls came in by the dozens to make a reservation and the limited spaces filled up quickly. Despite that, people took their chances with no reservations and lined up with their antiques for a chance to have them looked at. One by one, people brought their treasures to be evaluated by Mr. Royka. Many had no idea as to the history of the items, as they had been handed down through generations. Not only did they get an education about each item, but also an idea of how much it might be worth. And many went away excited to learn that they owned something worth thousands of dollars, while others left abruptly with a look of disappointment at finding out their “treasure” wasn’t a treasure after all. Throughout the day, Mr. Royka kept pace with examining all the antiques until every single person had been seen, and he never took a break! He graciously stayed on an additional 2 ½ hours to accommodate everyone.
This first-time fundraiser for Hearthside brought in over $2,000. The proceeds from the event will help with the continued restoration of Hearthside in the year ahead. Watch for a return of Appraisal Day in 2011!
