Hearthside - The House That Love Built

Newly-Released Christmas Book Features Hearthside

The Friends of Hearthside is delighted to announce the release of “Christmas at Historic Houses,” featuring Hearthside! Published by Schiffer Publishing, this beautiful book brings history to life by showcasing many historic houses at Christmas time, when special decorations help to welcome the social season and visiting guests. With over 400 stunning photos from historic houses across America, the book features both history and local customs. Both magnificent and well-known estates, such as Mt. Vernon and Monticello, and simple residences offer a variety of styles, tastes and ideas that are sure to inspire your own celebrations.

Co-authored by Patricia Hart McMillan and Katherine Hart McMillan, the book got its start some 5 years ago. It was Christmas of 2008 when they approached Hearthside to be considered for inclusion. Photographer Ruth A.B. Clegg of Angell Fine Art in Warwick donated her services to capture the magical beauty of Hearthside in all its holiday splendor. Kathy Hartley provided the background on Hearthside along with her own childhood memories as a neighbor of Hearthside on Great Road. The Mowbray family, the last family to call Hearthside home, recall their fond memories of Christmases past, right down to the menu for the traditional Christmas dinner. Images that were selected for the book are now also available as Christmas cards, which are for sale in the Hearthside Gift Shop.

The hardcover book measures 8 ½” x 11” with 224 pages and 449 photos. The book retails for $45.00 and is available in the Hearthside Gift Shop. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book help support the continued restoration of Hearthside.

The publication of this Christmas book is yet another special memento which celebrates Hearthside’s 200th Anniversary, joining the introduction of Hearthside holiday cards and a custom-made keepsake ornament, all of which are available in the Gift Shop or through the mail upon request.
