$20,000 Grant Awarded for Great Road Visitor Enhancement ProjectFriends of Hearthside was successful in a two-step competitive grant application to the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor through its Heritage Partnership Program. A $20,000 award was given for the Great Road Visitor Enhancement Project which is proposed for the development of signs around the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, Chase Farm Park, Moffett Mill, and Hearthside for identification, interpretation, and directions, expanded parking areas at the Hannaway Shop and Hearthside, and a new walkway between Hearthside and the Hannaway Shop. Taking these steps will help to address the visitor experience when coming to the Great Road Historic District so people will know where the different sites are, have a place to park and know where it is, understand the historical significance of the sites, and be informed as to what events are taking place at Hearthside. It will also allow for easier public access along Great Road to get from Hannaway to Hearthside. The Town of Lincoln has matched the grant with an inkind donation of labor to install the signs and parking areas. We look forward to completing this project by the Fall and having a communication system in place to guide visitors and to “connect the dots” as to the bigger story of the Great Road and Blackstone Valley. |
