Second Place Award Presented to Hearthside for July 4th Arnold Mills Parade Float

With a sweltering sun and temperatures soaring into the 90s, the volunteers from Friends of Hearthside were thinking that it might not have been such a great idea to march in the neighboring town of Cumberland’s July 4th Arnold Mills Parade. But, much work had already gone into the float that had been built, which featured the replica of Hearthside, (although this float was a much smaller version of the one done for the Memorial Day parade). The theme of the Cumberland parade was “Come Celebrate with Us,” which was perfect match with our 200th Anniversary banner, “Celebrating Lincoln’s Heritage: Past, Present, and Future.” After hours of standing in position and waiting for the signal that it was time to roll, along came the judges who announced that our float had been awarded the President’s Second Place Award! Suddenly, the heat didn’t seem so bad. With renewed energy, the group burst forth down the parade route proudly showing off our plaque with wide smiles on our faces. Along with the honor and engraved plaque comes a $200 check and the satisfaction of knowing that Hearthside received some wonderful visibility and thousands more people who now know what a beautiful house this is! The replica now sits in front of Lincoln Town Hall for all to see over the next few months.
