Hearthside - The House That Love Built

Smithsonian Museum Day - Saturday, Sept. 25

Friends of Hearthside is pleased to announce our participation in Museum Day, sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine. Museum Day, a national celebration of culture and heritage, is Saturday, September 25th.

This free, one-day, open house event involves museums all over the country. In Rhode Island, a number of museums and historic sites have decided to participate in this nationwide event, including Hearthside. Each site will open its doors for free to those who present their Museum Day Tickets at the door on that day. The Museum Day Ticket is available to download at www.smithsonian.com/museumday.

Visitors who present the official pass will gain free admission for two people to participating museums and cultural venues. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address. Listings and links to participating museums' and sponsors' sites can be found at www.smithsonian.com/museumday

Hearthside will feature a special exhibit for Museum Day on the Talbot family, owners of Hearthside from 1904-1926. The Talbots ran a hand weaving business there, known as the Hearthside Looms. Demonstrations of spinning and weaving to commemorate the Talbot history will take place on Museum Day.

Hearthside will be open from 1-4 p.m. and guided tours will be provided. Admission without the Museum Day ticket is $4 per person; children under 16 free.
