Confederate Memorial day & Re-enactor Training To Take Place April 30-May 1

The 12th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, a family-oriented group of re-enactors, is holding its annual School of Instruction at Lincoln’s Chase Farm Park during the Confederate Memorial Day observance on Saturday and Sunday, April 30-May 1.

The purpose of this encampment weekend is to provide the Confederate Re-enactor both camp and military experience through classes and hands-on training. Training includes infantry maneuvers, cavalry drills and artillery demonstrations. And, if you’ve always wanted to live the life and history of the Civil War, why not reenact it and experience what it was like to be a Georgia Infantryman in the War Between the States. The 12th Georgia is always looking for a few good men! Don’t have a uniform or equipment? No problem, the re-enactors have some equipment to borrow until you have fully equipped yourself. New recruits, ages 18 and above, are given a year in which to equip themselves and be qualified through the School of Soldier before going onto the field, so they are not able to join the army for the full-scale Civil War Re-enactment that is scheduled at Chase Farm Park on September 17-18, 2011 being sponsored by the Friends of Hearthside, 12th Georgia, New England Brigade and the Town of Lincoln.

Confederate Memorial Day dates back to 1866, when April 26th was set aside as a day of observance to pay honor to those who died defending the life, honor and happiness of the Southern women. The public is welcome to visit the encampment between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday morning before 1:00 p.m. For further information, contact David Pincins of the 12th Georgia at 401-301-4341.
