HEARTHSIDE GETS A PERMANENT SIGN
Photo: Lincoln resident and Hearthside neighbor Dave Stem and his wife Lori Quinn remove a line of shrubbery to clear the way for the new sign. Landscaping around the sign will take place once the warmer weather arrives. The latest addition to the Hearthside landscape is a permanent sign which provides passersby with information about the museum. Many visitors have claimed they never knew that Hearthside was a place that was even open to the public, never mind a museum. This sign now announces to all that Hearthside is indeed a place that is open, what is going on there, and contact information to learn more. The custom-made sign is v-shaped so that traffic coming in either direction is able to read it, and it's enclosed cabinet allows for changeable messaging. Its subtle colors and the curved design at the top mimic that of the house. And its installation to the right of the driveway does not interfere with views of the house in any way. The sign was designed by Hearthside volunteer Seth Hamilton and produced by Dion Signs of Central Falls. The sign was made possible through a grant awarded in 2011 through the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor for the Great Road Visitor Enhancement Project. The project included the development of expanded parking at the neighboring Hannaway Blacksmith Shop (a grant match provided by the Town of Lincoln), as well as three interpretive panels that will be installed at Chase Farm Park and Hearthside in the spring, and a Hannaway Shop/Chase Farm Park sign at the entrance to the Park. |
