A TITANTIC TEA COMES TO HEARTHSIDE MAY 12This year's afternoon tea, Hearthside's signature event, will be particularly memorable as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titantic. So what does the Titanic have to do with Hearthside? Well, there is no direct connection other than it was the most memorable and important historical event in the early 20th century, which is precisely the period of time being focused on in 2012 with our David Davidson and Talbot weaving exhibit. The interest in the Titantic has endured and just continues to grow and capture the imagination, not only because of the tragedy that claimed more than 1,500 lives, but in the grandeur and elegance of that magnificent ship. It was an era of prosperity and growth for our nation. It was a time when gentlemen tipped their hats to ladies who passed by, white-gloved hands held open doors with a welcome gesture, and people donned their finest when going out in public.
The elaborate decor of Hearthside's rooms will serve as the scene for The Titantic Tea. Our guests can imagine stepping aboard the luxurious ship and being seated in the tea salon, surrounded by other well-appointed passengers enjoying fine English tea, savory miniature sandwiches, and assorted fancy pastries while listening to the actual music played on board the Titanic. The Titantic Tea also includes elaborate hats and Edwardian fashions, prizes and a raffle featuring a dazzling "Heart of the Ocean" necklace. Tickets go on sale April 1st. Make your plans now to take a journey back in time at Hearthside. We promise it won't sink! |
