Hearthside - The House That Love Built

LEGISLATIVE GRANT RECEIVED

Friends of Hearthside recently received notice that Rep. William McManus sponsored a $1,000 grant in the General Assembly on our behalf. The grant may be used for any of the efforts the organization is currently involved in to promote the preservation of historic sites in the Great Road Historic District. With the recent start-up of the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, it was decided to target the grant toward some urgent preservation needs in that building. The original sign---Hannaway Blacksmith Shop---which still hangs above the door to the building, is rapidly deteriorating in the harsh weather. The plan is to remove the sign and bring it inside where it will be better protected yet still seen by visitors. With the support provided by this grant, a reproduction of the sign will be made that will then be hung in place of the original sign on the outside of the building.

The Blacksmith Shop is open every Saturday morning from May to November for demonstrations and classes in hand forging.

Last year, we also received a $1,000 legislative grant from Rep. McManus, which was used for the development of this website.

Friends of Hearthside, and the citizens of Lincoln, are most grateful for the support that Rep. McManus has continued to provide to historic preservation efforts along Great Road.
