Hearthside - The House That Love Built

PARADE FLOAT CALLED “MOST IMPRESSIVE”

A realistic replica of Hearthside dominated the Friends of Hearthside float in this year’s Memorial Day Parade in Lincoln. An estimated 7,000-10,000 watched the 45-minute parade that traveled the 1/1/2 mile stretch down Smithfield Avenue. Our “Help Preserve Historic Hearthside” banner was carried by volunteers in costume from various historic periods in front of the procession. The float, decorated in red, white and blue banners and flags, included a 30-foot long flatbed trailer, with an antique buggy that was hitched at the rear of it. A milk truck, promoting the preservation of RI’s dairy industry at the Chase Farm House followed the trailer. With a theme of “300 Years in 3 Miles: Lincoln’s Great Road,” the float featured in addition to the Hearthside replica, a blacksmith working at the anvil along with the original Hannaway Blacksmith Shop sign, an antique sleigh made in the 1800’s at Great Road’s Moffett Mill, a spinning wheel from the 1700’s, and a flax wheel provided by the Blackstone Valley Historical Society. Ladies with ruffles and lace, parasols and hats graced the float and buggy, along with beautiful plants and flowers provided by Lincoln Gardens.

An article that appeared the next day in The Pawtucket Times cited, “the Friends of Hearthside float was the most impressive of the parade.”
