Hearthside - The House That Love Built

2006 Membership Campaign Underway

In an effort to broaden support for the work of Friends of Hearthside, a membership campaign is being launched. A direct mail solicitation to Lincoln residents will be undertaken at the start of 2006, with advertising and personal appeals to follow in the spring. The initial goal is to secure 100 members. Membership levels ranging from as low as $15 to major gifts of $1,000 make it affordable for anyone to show support.

Through a membership program, we will be able to continue to offer a wonderful array of historic activities, while also providing funds needed for essential repairs. In order to receive grants to address major restoration projects, funders look to what level of support the site has from the people who benefit most from it. We are starting this membership campaign by asking the residents of Lincoln to help save a piece of their own town by joining Friends of Hearthside, Inc. Why wait for someone to ask, join now!

While we work closely with the Town of Lincoln and its officials to facilitate restoration efforts and manage events, we are an independent organization, raising funds through our own efforts and determining restoration priorities and where those funds need to be applied in a phased preservation process. Already, we have raised over $250,000 to begin restoration efforts on the home, money which the Town did not have to spend from its coffers and money that the house needed to make it structurally sound.

As a private organization outside the realm of politics, the Friends of Hearthside can move with some flexibility. Every piece of Great Road and Breakneck Hill Road set aside for preservation and conservation adds to the value of the entire community, as it helps to preserve the beauty and natural health of the town. The Friends of Hearthside, Inc. act as ambassadors to help raise the visibility and promote the historical significance of Hearthside and the Great Road Historic District.
