Friends of Hearthside Joins Volunteers in Parks ProgramFriends of Hearthside was organized four years ago as a volunteer effort to preserve Hearthside and make it accessible to the public. Our volunteers have had overwhelming success in meeting the challenge of this mission, and in a very short period of time, both Hearthside and the Great Road Historic District have become a key element in the heritage of the Blackstone Valley. For many of our events, the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor has assisted Friends of Hearthside by helping promote and staff our events with Park Rangers, utilizing our sites for various Blackstone Valley gatherings, developed tourism maps of the Great Road, and provided funding for the study of the history of Hearthside. Friends of Hearthside is now pleased to announce that with a recent vote by the membership, our organization is officially part of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor’s Volunteers in Parks (VIP) Program. The Volunteers in Parks Program involves volunteers from Worcester to Pawtucket in the various heritage sites throughout the Blackstone Valley. We join sites such as Slater Mill, the Kelly House, Museum of Work & Culture, Rivers Bend Farm, Roger Williams National Memorial and Slater Park in this program. Friends of Hearthside is pleased to be a part of this network and we look forward to strengthening our cooperative relationship in the years to come. |
